Overview of the Radio Control

The remote radio display is divided into several areas (top to bottom)

  • Menu Bar
  • Display window showing band, frequency, mode, meter reading, etc
  • Receiver controls and status        
  • Transmiter controls and status 
  • Status Bar and Command buttons along the lower edge
  • Login Bar   

The top meny bar provides access for the following

  • Selecting the Internet Sound type --NetMeeting (by Microsoft) or IRB Sound (by W4MQ)
  • Enabling of the DX Cluster window
  • Enabling of the Memory window
  • Various help capabilities

The bottom two bars support login and session management functions

Status Bar

This provides continuous status on the Remote link whether you are actually logged in or not. Colors are used to alert the operator. Red indicates a warning, greeen a normal connection, and yellow indicates system availablilty.

In addition to the static display, occasionally messages may flash on and off indicating important changes in system state, e.g. TESTING IN PROGRESS or SYSTEM GOING DOWN IN TEN MINUTES.

Status messages:

W4MQ is not On-Line

There is NO response from the remote server.There are many causes of this including lack of internet service at the server, software not executing, etc.

AVAILABLE

The remote is available for login.

In Use by W4MQ on 14320

Currently not available since it is in use by another station on the frequency indicated

In Use by W4MQ (Rx/Tx)

You are Connected!!

 

LOGIN  / LOGOFF

Click to activate Login --LOGOFF is only isible when you are currently logged into a remote base. Clicking will immedaitely log user off the remote
    

 

RESTART

Clicking will re-initialize the radio.. The state (i.e. frequency, mode, etc) will return to the current values.
    

CLEAR NETMEETING

Clicking this button will activate the NetMeeting window and will clear the reseive and transmit buffers, by unclicking the boxes next to the microphone and speaker. Sometimes clicking this twice will cause the boxes to not be re-checked correctly. The users should make sure that both boxes are checked!! See Audio Delay.
    

RESTART SOUND

Clicking will re-initialize the Voice Over IP sound. If sound does nto come up, the hit this button again
    

Radio Telemetry

It is possible to monitor the actual telemetry from the radio to check if commands are being processed correctly. When the 'z' key are depresssed,  the right side of the information display will toggle between the transmit control to a radio telemetry monitor as illustrated below..
