  • Set the micrphone gain for about 50%. You may want to make a finer adjustment based on actual transmission experience.  In general, during transmission the "Power" meter should register between "60 - 80" and the "ALC" reading between 15 and 25 (30 is maximum). Make the necessary adjustments using the  mic gain and the NetMeeting microphone volume slider.
  • For SSB operation, depress the "space bar" once for PTT (DO NOT HOLD IT DOWN). Depress it again to end transmission, or you can click on the red "Push to Talk" button for this function. At the end of your transmission you may notice a muffled echo of your last few words after you stop talking  due to the time delay in transmission of the actual audio packets over the Internet.
  • At the end of each QSO, you say something like, "This is <Your CALL>? operating the W4MQ remote controlled HF station over the Internet". to clearly reflect the status of the operation.
  • You may activate the "Tx Equalizer" to improve transmit audio quality. Click on the label and "H Boost" will be shown.
  • Power may be limited by the host station. If you select a power greater than the limit, the display will update with the limit emforced by the host station,
  • There is an amplifier available on HF at times. It is set manually to a specific band by W4MQ. If your priviledges permit, you can turn it off and on by clicking on the green label "Amp. Avail." if it is shown in the transmitter section.
  • .The "Monitor" can be used to listen to your transmit audio delayed by the Internet packet delay time. You probably will want to use this feature for testing purposes only and not during a QSO. Be sure to set power to 5 watts.

 

Split Frequency Operations

Split frequency operation is available. The keyboard commands are

  • "s" to enable/disable split
  • "e" to set receive and transmit frequency equal (transceive mode)
  • "x" to swap receive and transmit frequencies

(note that only the receive frequency and mode can be directly changed by keyboard entry)

The SPLIT indicator will be visible in Frequency display panel whenever split operations is enabled.
